Chemdawg, also spelled Chemdog, is a foundational American hybrid whose origin story traces to seeds reportedly found in an ounce purchased at a 1991 Grateful Dead show and grown out by an East Coast cultivator known as Chemdog. The exact parentage of those seeds was never documented, and the line survives through a handful of numbered and lettered cuts, including Chem 91, Chem D, Chem 4, and Chem Sis. The cultivar is one of the most cited ancestors in modern American breeding, appearing in the commonly repeated origin accounts of both OG Kush and Sour Diesel, and its sharp fuel aroma remains the reference point for the entire chem and diesel family.
